This Friday, our youth will be traveling to Columbia, South Carolina, for Revolution; a gathering where young people from across our state come together for a powerful, life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ through passionate worship and spiritual renewal. Last year, Revolution had a profound impact on our youth. In fact, one of our students was so deeply moved by that experience that he is now serving on the leadership team this year. We are especially excited to hear him speak on our very first night of worship, representing our church.
Last week, we talked about John the Baptist, whose mission was simply to point people to Jesus. I’m reminded of the words of one of my seminary professors, who said, “We can’t change people, we can only create opportunities and invite them to experience God for themselves.” It is in those encounters that true transformation takes place.
We don’t know what this experience will mean for our youth—whether ten, twenty, or thirty years down the road, or how it will shape them as leaders in the future church. But we trust that God will show up, just as God has before, and will continue to be at work in their lives, bringing about transformation.
So, in response to God’s faithfulness to us, we continue to be faithful to God through our prayers and generosity. One of the ways we do that is through our apportionments. Through the apportionments we give, retreats like Revolution become possible. Together, we help create sacred space—opportunities for hundreds of young people across South Carolina to encounter God.
So, as our youth prepare to go, we send them with our prayers, our support, and our trust in God. We trust that the seeds planted this weekend will bear fruit in ways we may never fully see. May we continue to be a church that faithfully points to Jesus, creates space for holy encounters, and believes that God is still transforming lives—one heart at a time.
