We are delighted to welcome Dr. Zachary Marshall to our staff ministry team as Director of Music Ministries. Zach’s first official day with us will be July 16, and his first Sunday with us will be July 20. We will have our regular 8:30 worship service and a combined 11:00 service in the sanctuary that morning.
Zach received his bachelor's degree in Voice Performance from East Tennessee State University, and his master’s degree from the University of Tennessee. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of South Carolina. He brings experience in leading choral music in a variety of settings from college ensembles to church choirs and contemporary worship experiences. He has sung in barbershop quartets and maintains an interest in different musical styles.
Zach is married to the Rev. Dr. Jennifer Marshall. Jenny is ordained in the Disciples of Christ denomination, and holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of South Carolina. She teaches elementary school music. Zach and Jenny have two children.
We are blessed beyond measure with an outstanding music ministry here at Surfside UMC. Our volunteer singers with the choirs provide inspiration week after week. The Praise Band at the Wave service moves us in powerful ways. I anticipate that Zach’s presence will enhance already excellent program.
I would be remiss if I did not take a special opportunity to thank the Rev. Jamie Holida for his leadership during this time of transition. He has taken on choir directing and oversight of the music ministry as we searched for our next director. Jamie’s exceptional skill at the organ and piano, along with his deep love for the church and pastoral heart, have touched us all. We are so very grateful for his presence among us.
It won’t be long before we begin preparation and rehearsals for our Christmas cantata. Consider singing with the choir for this special Sunday, or becoming a regular member of one of our music ministry teams. Not only will this bless us in worship each week, but you will find yourself blessed in new ways.
Blessings for the journey+
